SEMESTER 1:
FUNDAMENTALS
Students begin by immersing themselves in the practical and hands-on aspects of hair cutting. You will be introduced to 13 subject areas related to hair so that you can get a strong grasp on the elements of design, health and safety, as well as science and technical executions.
MARKETING & TECHNOLOGY
A strong online presence is crucial in today’s digital environment. The Eikonic Hair Program lets you take your design skills digitally. Learn how to create a personal HairFolio – a digital internet portfolio, create moodboards, social media ads, personal business cards, service price menus and a professional website by exploring popular media editing software and tools.
WORKPLACE PREP & BUSINESS SKILLS
Develop interpersonal skills and the confidence you’ll need in your new position as a hairstylist. Learn how to write a great resume, complete job search, conduct a successful interview, network like a pro, and apprenticeship applications. Learn how to use government resources, accounting and budgeting basics, retail and merchandising tactics, inventory management, salon operations, and marketing fundamentals.
SEMESTER 2:
JUNIOR TECHNICAL TRAINING
After being introduced to 13 subject areas in hair, students advance to the next phase of their learning, where they will now explore and combine different technical skills to create transformative looks inspired by pop culture and fashion periods.
Students will learn first hand critical back-of-house operations overseeing the dispensary department where they will learn to think critically about colour formulations, handle back bar inventory as well as record keeping. Students will also be exposed to a team-environment where they will be introduced as floor assistants to senior students gaining valuable experience in communication, consultation, and work-flow planning.
By the end of this 10 week term, students will have completed at a minimum of 130 technical manikin transformations before they are eligible to participate in a qualifying live-model exam before moving on to semester 3.
SALON PROS – STUDENT LED SALON AND BARBERSHOP
Students acquire significant workplace experience by participating in the student-led salon and barbershop during this immersive final step of training. Daily, students will contact with real clients and will be empowered to assume a leadership position in the delivery of services, while supervising and mentoring junior students. This unique experience encourages students to work together while enhancing their communication skills in the fast-paced salon and barbershop setting. In addition, students gain a complete 360-degree view of the client operation by managing front of house operations and practising skills such as client greetings, time and resource management, cashing clients, customer service, and telephone etiquette – essential business skills required for any successful stylist or barber.
Unique to Eikonic, students will learn how to build client loyalty with the highly specialized barber skill in hot towel straight razor shaving. Gain the skills and technical know-how to design and deliver the ultimate shave experience that will set you apart from the rest.
Before graduating from Eikonic, students will have demonstrated a minimum of 130 live-client service skills before they are eligible to graduate, ensuring confidence in all areas of technical execution.
While many students will choose to double-major as a barber-stylist, it is here in the final weeks of training that a student may also declare their area of specialization and focus on either barbering, colourist or stylist work.
