Ontario hair styling programs can generally be completed within 1 year, where students must complete a total of 1500 hours combined of both theoretical and practical clinic-based praticum. Different cosmetology schools may structure their program differently based on their curriculum design and educator’s availability.
Eikonic Academy Hair School Duration – What to Expect
Eikonic Academy’s hair school program length is 10 months long, which is 40 weeks at 37.5 hours per week of instruction.
Duration of Hair School Programs at Eikonic Academy
At Eikonic Academy, aspiring cosmetologists and students of hair and barbering can achieve their Ontario Hairstyling Diploma while selecting one of three areas of concentration for their senior level of training. Students will have the chance to declare their primary topic of study at the final stage of their training, which is a distinctive aspect of the training program at Eikonic Academy. The options available to students are:
- Double Major Barber-Stylist
- Hair Stylist Major
- Barber Major
Eikonic Academy’s educational pathway enables hairstyling and barber students to work towards earning their Ontario Hairstyling Diploma and prepares them for an Ontario apprenticeship and Licensing while still making education meaningful for the student’s area of interest in the hair and beauty industry.
How Many Hours is Hair School?
The Eikonic Hair school program’s duration is 1500 hours, is registered under the Ontario Private Career Colleges Act and meets Ontario’s Apprenticeship Guidelines.

Part-Time Course Scheduling for Hair School and Barber School Students
All Students pursuing any of the three hair streams are considered to be enrolled Full-Time. Eikonic’s adaptive curriculum program was carefully designed with the adult learner in mind. During semester 1, students find that the program is flexible in that they are only required to be present in school 3 days a week, making the hair and barber program feel like a part-time course load.
More over, homework assignments assigned for at home studies, are setup as ‘mini’ modules, to be completed on your own time, at your own pace. This allows students to have complete control of where they want to learn, and when they want to learn.
What To Expect
Semester 1 – Part-Time Hybrid Hair Foundations Learning
You will gain a solid foundation of hairstyling during this portion of your programming. This phase will take 20 weeks to complete. During this time, students learn essential skills and techniques exploring all areas in the study of hair in accordance with Ontarios hairstyling standards requirement including:
- Cutting
- Styling
- Barbering
- Coloring
- Perms
- Smoothing
- Braiding
- Hair Additions
- Health and Safety
- Ethics
- Business Management
Semester 2 – Jr. Level weeks 21- 30
During this part of programming, students will continue to practice on their dexterity, speed and application of techniques expanding on what they have learned in the foundational level with real-world applications on both manikins and live-models. Students will work on fundamental skills like front-desk, time management, client consultations, salon assistance, chemical formulation, dispensary duties such back bar and product management, and inventory record keeping procedures in addition to exploring the student-salon clinic and learning how to be a part of a high-functioning team.
Semester 2 – Senior Level week 31 – 40
This unique and dynamic learning environment is the epitome of the student’s learning experience where students will now complete over 100 live-model quotas under our instructor’s careful supervision to build and gain confidence in their client consultations, creative vision and precise technical execution. Some additional skills students will gain include leadership, teamwork, delegation, business building , customer relationship management in addition to marketing and social media skills.
